Student Organizations

WVU has more than 300 student organizations catering to the varied interests and needs the student population. The list below is just a sampling of the student organizations available on campus. Alpha Kappa Psi
A coed professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi serves the dual purposes of education and brotherhood. The organization strives to give members the information and orientation necessary to succeed in a professional career after graduation.

 

Alpha Phi Omega
WVU’s Lambda Omicron chapter of the national service organization Alpha Phi Omega makes its presence known on campus by sponsoring numerous projects to better the campus and local communities.

 

American Fisheries Society
The WVU Student Sub-Unit of the American Fisheries Society provides a professional forum for fisheries students and faculty members interested in fisheries pursuits.  

 

Athletic Trainers’ Association
Raising awareness of athletic training’s role in the community is WVUATA’s main goal. The group also raises funds to help cover costs of certification exams and educational conferences, as well as supporting the West Virginia ATA in its state licensure efforts.

 

Beta Alpha Psi
This national honorary for financial information professionals is open to accounting majors at WVU.

 

BiGLM
This campus organization provides support and support services for bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgendered students, faculty, and staff at WVU, as well as their friends and allies in North Central West Virginia.

 

Block and Bridle
Block and Bridle is a nationally recognized agriculture club with 89 active college organizations located throughout the country. WVU’s Block and Bridle Club generally meets bi-weekly and coordinates fund-raising and service activities.

 

Campus Crusade for Christ
This group is devoted to providing a supportive environment for following Jesus. Informal meetings are held weekly in the Mountainlair.

 

Collegiate 4-H
Collegiate 4-H has a long history at WVU, with the first group being organized in the mid-1920s. The group coordinates service projects and supports West Virginia’s total 4-H program in a variety of ways.

 

Cycling Club
The WVU Cycling Club—made up of students, faculty, staff and community members—plans community projects, does trail maintenance, and organizes group rides and social activities. The racing component of the organization represents WVU in the Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference.

 

Debate Team
In recent years, the WVU Debate Team has finished its season among the top 20 teams in the nation. The team is sponsored by the Department of Political Science, but students from many different majors participate.

 

Finance Club
Focused on facilitating the job search process of its members, the Finance Club in the College of Business and Economics prepares an annual resume book and takes a trip to a major city to find networking opportunities. 

 

Forensic Identification Club
Started in 2001, this club has over 100 members and hosts social, educational, and fund-raising activities. Students may join at the beginning of any semester.

 

Gamma Beta Phi Society
Since this service honorary was chartered in 1998, its members have worked with dozens of non-profit agencies, community centers, and the university to develop service projects.

 

Golden Key International Honour Society
Golden Key strives to build global communities of academic achievers by providing opportunities for individual growth through leadership, career development, networking and service. Members represent the top 15 percent of juniors and seniors at WVU.

 

Greek Organizations
Students interested in becoming part of Greek life can choose from 14 fraternities, eight sororities, and six historically black fraternities and sororities on the WVU campus.

 

WVU Hillel
WVU Hillel is the Jewish student organization at WVU. Hillel sponsors numerous events and activities, many at the WVU Hillel House located on University Avenue.

WVU Student Grotto
The mission of the WVU Student Grotto is to promote safe and responsible caving to the students of WVU and to further not only the sport of caving but the scientific study of caves.

Horn Club
Membership of the WVU Horn Club in the College of Creative Arts is open to hornists who participate in the WVU Horn Ensembles. The ensembles have been presented at international and regional workshops.

 

Iranian Student Association
Keeping alive Iranian traditions and identity, this student association brings together students with Iranian background or interest at WVU.

 

Juggling Club
Classes, jobs, social lives—students have to juggle a lot in college, but members of the WVU Juggling Club go way beyond that with its workshops and annual Juggling Festival, which features the “Jugglympics” and a show by club members.

Marching Band
From nationally televised football games to presidential inaugurations, crowds across the nation have been delighted by the high-energy performances of the "Pride of West Virginia" Mountaineer Marching Band. The 375-member band has students from almost every major on campus.

Mountaineer Hockey Program
The WVU Hockey Club plays schools throughout Pennsylvania and the northeast, and is a member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, which includes both Division I and Division II teams.

 

Mountaineer Maniacs
The largest student group on campus, Mountaineer Maniacs organization is the premiere student group for Mountaineer athletics. Members get priority seating for football games and at the Coliseum for men’s basketball games.

 

Muslim Students Association
The first priority of MSA is to make Muslim students feel at home at WVU. The group hosts small gatherings every Friday and celebrates traditional festivities, such as Ramadan and Eid.

 

Organization for Native American Interests
Working closely with the Native American Studies Program at WVU, this group provides support for Native American students and promotes awareness of Native American culture. 


Pakistan Students Association
This Pakistani student group assists newcomers in getting acquainted with the campus and also works to promote Pakistani culture and heritage.

 

Philosophy Club
Philosophy majors and interested non-majors are welcome to join this student group dedicated to providing extra-curricular activities like discussion groups and guest speakers.

 

Plant and Soil Sciences Club
This club in the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences accepts members from all degree programs at WVU, with a majority of the members coming from the Environmental Protection, Soil Sciences, and Horticulture programs.

 

Psi Chi honorary and Psychology Club
These groups sponsored by the Department of Psychology give students opportunities to get involved in on and off campus.

 

Public Relations Student Society of America
Through PRSSA, students can get valuable career-related experience working on the group’s annual service projects and connect with professionals in the field.

Russian Club
This group fosters camaraderie among those interested in Russian language and culture.

Saudi Students' Association
The SSA-WVU serves as a chapter of the Saudi students' clubs and educational centers in cultural mission of Saudi Arabia to the USA under supervision of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington, DC.

Society for Women Engineers
This non-profit educational service organization is dedicated to making known the need for women engineers and encouraging young women to consider an engineering education.

Society of American Foresters
Part of the largest professional forestry organization in the world, WVU SAF members participate in work to assist forestry professors in research and other events to further forestry knowledge.

Sport Management Club
Those interested in careers in sport management are invited to meet like-minded students for networking and professional activities aimed at better preparing them to succeed within an organizational environment.

Student Nurses Association
SNA provides academic support for future nurses and allows pre-nursing students the opportunity to gain knowledge concerning nursing as a profession.

Student Society for the Advancement of Biometrics
This group of undergraduate and graduate students in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering promotes the advancement of biometrics on a student level and helps students in biometrics become involved in the professional world.

Women’s Softball Club
Members of the WVU Women’s Softball Club, one of about 50 sports and recreation student organizations, proved they were tops in the nation when they clinched the 2005 NCAA Club Softball National Championship.
