Paying for College

Dream first and worry about tuition last. We offer a quality education at a great price, and aid programs that make our price tag even better.

Scholarships

Hard work pays off. Literally. We award $34 million in scholarships each year. Many West Virginia students also qualify for the West Virginia PROMISE Scholarship. And the best part about scholarships? You never have to pay them back.

  • Freshman Scholarships — It's easy to apply for our merit-based scholarships. Just submit your admissions application, test scores and transcript to get started. We offer scholarships to both West Virginia residents and out-of-state students.
  • Diversity Scholarships — More perspectives mean more chances to learn. We're creating an inclusive learning community.
  • Leadership Scholarships — Are you an Eagle Scout or Gold Award winner? Did you attend Boys or Girls Nation? We reward success in organizations like 4-H and the Civil Air Patrol.
  • College and Department Scholarships — Additional scholarships are available for students in certain majors.

Loans

You and your parents can borrow up to the full amount of your estimated Cost of Attendance (or budget) each academic year. Unlike scholarships, all loans must be repaid, usually with interest.
