At least one Resident Faculty Leader, or RFL (pronounced “riffle”), is assigned to each WVU residence hall. RFLs plan special activities and trips, host social events in their on-campus homes, provide academic support and guidance, and serve as mentors. Get to know your RFL when you get to campus; they’re there to help you in any way to make sure you succeed at WVU.
The RFL project is part of the First-Year Experience, a University-wide initiative to help promote student success. WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr. initiated the First-Year Experience to ease the transition from high school to college and to personalize the freshman experience. Since its inception in 1995, the initiative has been nationally recognized for creating an exceptional campus living and learning environment.
Some of the other aspects of the First-Year Experience include New Student Convocation, WVU’s official welcome to the incoming class; the annual FallFest celebration on the first night of fall semester classes; WVUp All Night; and Festival of Ideas, a line-up of dynamic guest lecturers during the spring semester.
