Tips and Resources
The FAFSA is available October 1 using prior-prior year financials. For example,
if applying for the 2022-2023 academic cycle, you will file the FAFSA beginning
October 1, 2021 and use 2020 financials.
If enrolling for a summer start you may be required to file the FAFSA for the
previous cycle in addition to the newest FAFSA. Please work with your
WVU admissions counselor

aid programs and see the actual cost of attending WVU.
Apply on time. WVU’s FAFSA priority deadline for need-based aid is March 1. However,
the earlier you file, the better!
The FAFSA and
Promise application are due March 1 for West Virginia residents seeking
to meet eligibility for Promise. If planning to test later, you must still
file the FAFSA and Promise application by this date.
First-time students must be admitted by June 1 to be eligible for merit scholarships.
If admitted prior to this date, students have until June 1 to submit updated
GPA and ACT or SAT scores. Scores are automatically updated, but you must work
with your WVU admissions counselor to have your GPA changed after being admitted.
Check your MIX email frequently for updates! The WVU Financial Aid Office communicates
almost exclusively via your MIX email. We strongly encourage admitted students
to set up their portal immediately, and to have their parents/guest set up
Parent/Guest Proxy due to FERPA privacy regulations.
