Spotlight on Lauren Black
Hometown and State:
Shippensburg, PA
Major/Department:
Geology
Rank:
Senior
Biography:
Studying volcanic activity at Yellowstone National Park is this geology major's dream job.

Lauren completed the Adventure WV orientation program the summer before entering WVU.

"It was a blast! I don't think I could have made it though the first semester as easily if it wasn't for my Adventure friends and all I learned. I had so much fun white-water rafting, rock climbing, and backpacking. I tested myself and I became so much stronger because of that. It was an amazing experience that I would recommend to every incoming freshman."
Career Goal:
Volcanologist
How has WVU surprised you?
I never knew it rained as much here as it does! Also, the weather changes a lot! As far as WVU the university, I didn't expect the professors and staff to be as helpful as they are. Everyone here tries to help you succeed in whatever way they can. It's really cool.
What advice would you give a future student?
Study and don't get behind in your classes, but live it up as a freshman and take in as much of the college experience as you can because it only gets harder from here.
Why did you choose WVU?
I loved the campus the moment I got here. I love the outdoors and there is so much to do here. It just fit so perfectly with me. Also, I wanted to be in a big marching band, and The Pride of West Virginia was just right.
