Over the course of his career at WVU, Professor Tomkowski has taught more than 16,000 students, many of those in his popular Forestry 140—
West Virginia Natural Resources class.
“I’ve seen about every major in the University in that course,” says Professor Tomkowski, who also teaches upper-level courses in forest hydrology and forest management.
A recipient of awards for outstanding teaching and advising, he has served as the program’s summer camp coordinator and faculty advisor to the Forestry Club and the
Cruiser, the
Division of Forestry and Natural Resources' yearbook.
His public service activities include making summer camp presentations about West Virginia logging history and using aquatic invertebrates to ascertain water quality.
If he’s not in the classroom, you can probably find him engaged in his favorite pastime—fishing in the area’s lakes and waterways.
