A Message to ALL High School Guidance Counselors

The Higher Education Policy Commission has advised that in order to prepare our high school students with a stronger science background, technical conceptual science courses do not meet the college lab science admission requirement. To provide students and Guidance Counselors the necessary time to adjust to these recommendations, WVU has decided to phase in this new advisory:

• For fall 2008, we will continue to unconditionally accept the Conceptual and Technical Science courses as lab sciences. This means that your current high school seniors are not affected by the change.

• For fall 2009 admission (your current high school juniors), we will accept as lab sciences any Conceptual and Technical courses taken in the 2006-2007 school year (their sophomore year), but we will not accept them as lab sciences if they were taken in the 2007-2008 (their junior) or 2008-2009 (their senior) school year.

• For fall 2010 admission, we will not accept Conceptual and Technical courses as labs. This will affect current sophomores.
