Typically, we place nonresident students on the waitlist if they don’t have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and an ACT score of 22 or an SAT combined Math and Critical Reading score of 1030. We want to make sure we admit students who can be successful at WVU. Because we have experienced record enrollment numbers over the past few years, we also need to make sure that we have adequate space and academic resources for every admitted student.
For fall 2007, the class average for first-time freshmen was a high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 and an ACT composite score of 23.5 or SAT combined score for Math and Critical Reading of 1061.
If you have an increase in your cumulative GPA or you retake your standardized tests and increase your score, please contact Admissions & Records to reevaluate your application. Also, if space does become available in the freshman class, we will reevaluate the waitlisted applicants. However, we cannot guarantee the number of students, if any, that we will admit from the waitlist.
If you decide that you do not want to be on the waitlist at WVU, contact the Office of Admissions and Records at (304) 293-2121 or at go2wvu@mail.wvu.edu. If you e-mail, please include your complete name and date of birth.
You can find more information about each of these campuses by visiting their Web sites:
If you choose to enroll at a regional campus or another college and your grades meet the minimum requirements, you might be eligible to transfer to the Morgantown campus. For details about transferring, visit the Transfer Student page.
If you enroll at another college, you must submit an admission application, the required application fee (waived if you are transferring from a regional campus) and an academic transcript from the other college to WVU’s Office of Admissions and Records. You must have a minimum cumulative college grade point average of 2.0 to maintain your eligibility to enroll in the spring. Please note that some academic programs have additional requirements.
